Welcome
To The Winning Mind Set Tip of the Week
You
Become What You Think About
When I was a kid, I always wondered why some people seemed
to have all the luck. It just appeared as though
they always succeeded, and I wondered why I wasn't blessed with this amazing
aptitude, this unusual gift. I wanted so badly to be successful at things in
the same way, that I began to study these unique individuals and emulate their
qualities. I was driven with the mentality that if I tried to be like them,
I would eventually have the same results. In many instances, I began to achieve
things I never thought I was capable of. As bizarre as it sounds, this crude
form of modeling is very effective. In fact it is so effective, we as toddlers
begin to do exactly that, using our parents as our model. Later, as we are exposed
to other influences, we begin to get a stream of models that we are exposed
to, many times with conflicting and contradictory images and protocols. At this
point many of us have begun to shape our character to a degree where we are
not aware of just how influential these entities, these models are. Using just
exactly this concept formula, I went from a skinny, uncoordinated, shy, awkward,
unpopular, unathletic kid, mediocre at everything I attempted, to a successful
business owner, a highly skilled chef, a state, regional and world champion
in full contact martial arts, a holder of 8 Blackbelts, a published writer,
an accomplished performance consultant and coach, an educator at Cornell University
(a prestigious Ivy League University), an athlete with the physique, health
and vitality of a 30 year old (at 51), a consummate professional, and most importantly,
a very happy person with a wonderful life.
A man is literally what he thinks.
-James Allen
So, why did all this change? I decided that
I would watch what the best people I knew did and emulate them. If they were
that good, it must be because of who they are, who they have become. If that
is true, then I will succeed in the same ways if I do what they do, if I act
as they do. Guess what, it works! But be careful, it works both ways. If you
act as though you are a champion inside, you will become pushed in the direction
of greatness. However, if you act as though you are a scoundrel, you begin to
think and become a predatory or parasitic entity. You become what you think
about most of the time!
How Can You Use This?
Want Different Results? If you keep doing what you've
always done, you'll keep getting what you've always gotten. If you want to make
remarkable improvements, you must raise your standards to the level you would
expect, if you were already successful.
How would you stand if you just achieved your greatest accomplishment? What
would a person who was responsible for such incredible actions say? How would
this person dress? In order to be successful, you must think and act as if you
already were. To be successful, you must first think, act like and
accept that you already are. As you do this your mind will look
for ways to make you successful. You will elevate your standards to become that
person. As you do, your mind will adjust to your new standards and support your
conviction!
You will have a Winning Mind Set, and great things will happen.
Experience is not what happens to a man.
It is what a man does with what happens to him.
-ALDOUS HUXLEY
You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be
tomorrow where your thoughts take you.
-James Allen
